About Us: Refugees And Marginalized Locals Association (RAMLA)

The Refugees And Marginalized Locals Association (RAMLA) is a foundation in Kakuma, Turkana West Sub County of Kenya. RAMLA was founded by and for the out-of-school children (OOSC), Children with Disabilities (CWDs), and Vulnerable groups of Women and Girls (VWGs) from the refugee and marginalized host communities in Kenya. The RAMLA Foundation is committed to returning the OOSC to school and supporting CWDs, and VWGs to lead fulfilling lives. We raise awareness about the plight of at-risk children and their families and capacitate them through education, entrepreneurship, psychosocial support, and life skills training.

RAMLA is a unique initiative for OOSC, VWGs, and CWDs, their families, and communities because it provides an enabling environment for at-risk girls and children with different disability types to thrive with those without disabilities in mainstream and special schools in Kenya.

This campaign is dedicated to supporting young girls in underserved communities by providing them with sanitary pads and essential school supplies. For many girls, something as natural as menstruation becomes a barrier to education. Without access to menstrual hygiene products, they are forced to miss school for several days each month—falling behind in class, struggling with low self-esteem, and often eventually dropping out. Similarly, children who lack basic school materials like books, pens, and uniforms…
